LA and Vegas
|
Going there for a week over New Year.
3 days in LA 5 days in Vegas
Never been before and just looking for recommendations on what to do in such a short time.
Also what is best to do with purchasing tickets for shows. Is it best to book in advance? Or wait until you are in Vegas?
Things we are looking at doing:
Los Angeles: LA Kings hockey LA Lakers basketball
Las Vegas: Las Vegas Golden Knights hockey Michael Jackson One Cirque Du Soleil Blue Man Group Bruno Mars Gwen Stefani David Copperfield Calvin Harris for NYE Tape Face Penn & Teller
We're not really big into the gambling, so we'll be walking around during the day. Maybe look at a trip to the Grand Canyon etc.
Any tips would be great.
Thanks

Go to the Getty Museum if you like that sort of thing in L A.
Santa Monica is a good shout during the day if you want to do some shopping.....The old Kings head is there if you want to hit an English pub, some English grub and a game of arrows.
Lots of Bars and Restaurants all over LA, too many to mention.....Sunset Blvd has Bar mermont, thats always been a trendy spot.
Vegas, get yourself to the RIO casino, it's off the strip but has the best Buffet around. get there about 4 ish, you still pay lunch prices but they bring out the more expensive Dinner menu about 4:30 pm.. unreal food there.
Lots of pool parties during the day, wear the sunglasses that are dark so the missus can't see your eyes, that way she can't see you sniff at all the young pussy running around. Took my mom to see Gladys Knight she still puts on a show there I believe, that was worth seeing.
Ceasars palace is worth a visit, the indoor shopping mall there is a spectacle, so is the water fountain display at Bellagio.

I’d flip it round and do the 5days in La and 3 in Vegas
LA Got Clippers tickets, they play in the same place and tickets are lots cheaper. Some of them around $10
Go to Albert Kenny Boulevard if you like the cool kids shops, bars and reataurants. It’s a nice spot.
Getty is amazing and worth a day up there. It’s free if i remember rightly as it was Getty’s gift to LA
Santa Monica is a nice spot, great beach, nice looking ladies everywhere.
If you have to do Hollywood don’t stay too long as it is grim.
Avoid theme parks if you are an adult and value time.
Vegas Hire a car and drive out to the valley of fire and can off the Grand Canyon. You’ll save many hours and dollars and see the same rocks.
Get over to container park for breakfast / brunch at Perch (I think they may have changed the name) for unlimited bloody Mary’s for your hangover.
Take out a mortgage and go to a titty bar
Play craps and ask the dealer to place all your bets.
Don’t forget to sleep

Just avoid Chief Sullivan's in San Francisco. Never know who you're going to bump into.
As others have said though, avoid Hollywood at all costs. If you have to, get in and take a few photos and get out. Absolute dump. Personally I'd probably use my days to do Vegas and then drive up to San Francisco bit by bit (or vice versa) stopping off at Santa Monica, Monterrey, Santa Barbara etc. I guess the beach cities in LA are ok though.

Micheal Jackson One was the single greatest live non-sporting spectacle I have ever seen.
Would agree with the earlier advice that 3 days will be more than enough in Vegas.

Santa Monica Boulevard is just like the A406 but the beach is great. Hire a cycle and head to Venice, take deep breaths when you arrive and the ganga will glide you back.....
